End of 2019 review

12/9/2019

12/9/19 - 2019 is coming to an end now and its time to look forward to the upcoming year. Our racing stable had a great year with the highlight being Nessy running a game 2nd in the G1 Northern Dancer stakes at Woodbine in September. He had a great year and after a good 2 month break at the farm went back to Ian Wilkes racing stable on December 2nd and is currently in Ocala preparing for his 2020 campaign. We are blessed to be associated with such a tough and talented horse and being as hes as sound as ever we look forward to him next year.
While our yearling sales this year didn't hit the heights of 2018 we sold our yearlings very well with the highlight being the Elusive Quality filly out of Peggy May bringing $320,000 from Stallionaire Enterprises. What we most have enjoyed this year however is watching the yearlings we sold last year strut their stuff headlined by American Theorem (American Pharoah out of Mighty Renee) who was 2nd in the G1 American Pharoah in September. Also Doc Boy (Into Mischief out of Peggy May won a stake at Colonial Downs at the end of August. Full Flat (Speightstown out of Golden Flair) broke his maiden in Japan and ran 5th in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Kentucky Force (Will Take Charge out of Kentucky Whisper) won 2 races in Russia. Loaded (Ghostzapper out of Silverpocketsfull) ran 2nd twice in her 1st 2 starts for Rusty Arnold beaten by 2 seriously good fillies. Shyza (Cairo Prince out of November) broke her maiden in Gulfstream Park West at end of November impressively. Divine Armor (Include out of Homesick Angel) ran a good closing 3rd in November to subsequent G2 LA Futurity winner Thousand Words. So we have a lot to look forward to in 2020.
Our 1st foaling mares have started to come up at night beginning with:
Not Be Forgotten in foal to Collected on a 2/14/19 cover
South Andros in foal to Jimmy Creed on a 2/14/19 cover
Scattered Rain in foal to Street Sense on a 2/17/19 cover
General Consensus in foal to Candy Ride on a 2/21/19 cover
November in foal to Mshawish on a 2/28/19 cover

Our weanlings really look like a strong group also for next year. We have a long ways to go but so far the headliners are:
Arrogate filly out of Bsharpsonata
Kittens Joy filly out of Sierra Squall
Quality Road filly out of Shanon Nicole
American Pharoah colt out of Fontanne
California Chrome filly out of St Trinians
Distorted Humor colt out of Silverpocketsfull
Uncle Mo filly out of Scandalous Song
Runhappy colt out of Nellie Bly and
finally Nessys brother a Distorted Humor colt out of Flower Forest

So we are really looking forward to 2020 here on Sierra Farm. A merry Christmas to everybody and a happy new year!!

1/22/19 - Well here at Sierra Farm 2018 was a year full of incredible highs and incredible lows. As most people know by now we lost Ed in September. Ed was more than just an owner of a horse farm, it truly was his passion and what he loved doing was raising good horses with his wife Sharon. He achieved his ultimate goal in this game by breeding and owning his 1st graded stake winner when Nessy won the Grade 3 San Juan Capistrano in April at his beloved Santa Anita Park. It truly brought tremendous joy to him and Sharon. Additionally in 2018  Sierra Farm sold its first million dollar horse when an American Pharoah colt out of Bsharpsonata fetched $1.4 million from Larry Best's OXO Equine on the 3rd day of book 1 at the Keeneland September sale. It truly was a remarkable year and Ed was very proud to have achieved his dreams. We miss Ed dearly and know that he is looking down on us.
He would of been a happy man when we had our first winner of 2019 when Fine Tune (an Elusive Quality gelding out of Golden Flair) broke his maiden down in Tampa Bay Downs on 1/16/19. On Saturday 1/26/19 on the Pegasus World Cup undercard at Gulfstream Park in Miami we have Nessy back running in the 1 1/2 mile Grade 3 W.L McKnight. Also on the same undercard Everyonelovesjimmy runs in the 7 1/2f South Beach stake in her first try over grass and off a bit of a layoff.
Here on the farm we had our first foal of the year when our young Candy Ride mare Cincy had an American Freedom filly on 1/15/19. We have 24 mares due to foal here on the farm so fingers crossed.
